Our Da Nang to DMZ continues with a visit to the Doc Mieu Firebase. This military base is situated on a basalt hill in a terrain with three slopes. It was originally established by the French colonialists in 1947 to monitor National Highway 1A and was called Ba Doc. Later, the US army took advantage of its strategic location and declared it an “impregnable fortress” when they set up their own military base on the hilltop.

Hien Luong Bridge and Ben Hai River are prominent landmarks spanning the Ben Hai River, which used to be the border dividing Vietnam into two regions along the 17th parallel. However, today Vietnam is independent and free, but this work is still protected and exists as if to recall a heroic history.

2 reviews for Da Nang to DMZ by Private Car

  1. Galvin Palmer
I was very hesitant when booking this program, as I did not know about Vietnamese history, and my knowledge of World War was extremely limited. But thanks to my wonderful driver, Mr. Kay, who assisted in finding tour guides at various attractions. This helped the 23-year-old me gain a lot of good knowledge.
  2. Old man Robin
The trip was very good, with a driver who spoke English and was able to share a lot of information with me. DMZ is always a destination that makes me feel excited, especially due to my interest in things related to strategy and war history. The years I've been through evoke strong emotions that I want to talk about.
