Marble Mountains is located about 8km southest of Da Nang city center, along the coastal road between Da Nang and Hoi An. Marble Mountains is a cluster of five limestone and marble outcrops. Originally, these mountains were places of worship for the Cham people in Central Vietnam. Later, Buddhists built temples and pagodas on the mountain tops and in the caves. In 1825, King Minh Mang named the mountains “Ngu Hanh Son” after the five elements in Eastern philosophy: Metal, Earth, Wood, Fire and Water. “Hanh Son” was named by French geologists because they discovered that these mountains were made of marble during the French colonial period.

2. Son Tra Peninsula: Breathtaking scenery
Located 10km northeast of Da Nang City and at an altitude of 693m above sea level, Son Tra Peninsula is famous for its long white sand beaches, primeval forests and sacred spiritual sites. With its sea-facing appearance, Son Tra and the majestic Hai Van mountain range embrace Da Nang city and Da Nang Bay. Linh Ung Pagoda consists of a three-door gate, main hall and ancestral hall, and is a perfect combination of modern and traditional Vietnamese pagoda architecture. The highlight of the pagoda is the 67m-high statue of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara placed on a lotus-shaped pedestal. Each of the 17 floors inside the statue has 21 Buddha statues with different shapes, facial expressions and postures.
